Square Passing Drill

In addition to the basic skill of running to an open space, receiving a pass, and making a pass, this drill teaches the skill of running in crossing paths with your teammate to confuse the defense. Place 7 cones or markers as shown by the small orange circles in the picture below. The distance between each of the cones should be 5 to 7 yards (or 5 to 7 meters.)

1) Player A (blue) starts with the ball. Player B (red) runs diagonally to the next open cone. While Player B starts to run, Player A passes the ball to the open cone that player B is running to.

2) Player B (red) receives the ball and controls it. Player A (blue) starts running diagonally to the next open cone. While Player A starts to run, Player B passes the ball to the open cone in front of Player A.

3-5) Continue the passing until both Player A and Player B reach the end as shown in the below 3 pictures. We recommend that you do this drill 3 times then switch the places between Player A and Player B and do the drill 3 more times.
