This drill teaches the basic skill of shooting after a short dribble. It also teaches shooting with the leg that is farthest from the defender, thereby making it more difficult for the defender to stop the shot.
Place 3 cones or markers about 15 yards (or 15 meters) in front of the goal as shown in the picture below. The distance between each of the cones should be 5 yards (or 5 meters.)
1) The player dribbles between the 3 cones as shown in the below picture.
2) Once the player is next to the last cone, the player shoots the ball with his or her left foot. The last cone represents a defender. Therefore the left foot is the farthest from the defender. The player should aim for either side of the goal and should try to avoid shooting the ball down the center of the goal. Perform this drill 3 to 5 times.
3-4) Now perform the drill as shown in the below 2 pictures. This time shooting with the right foot which is now the foot that is farthest from the last cone. Again, aim for either side of the goal and try to avoid shooting the ball down the center of the goal. Perform this drill 3 to 5 times.
