Low and to the corner penalty shots have the highest chance of success as they are difficult for goalies to stop and they are relatively easy for the shooter. This drill reinforces this concept. Practice this drill often and scoring on penalty kicks will become second nature.
Place 2 cones or markers on the goal line 2 feet (60 centimeters) from each of the goal posts as shown by the orange circles in the picture below.
1) Place the ball on the penalty spot (about 12 yards from the goal.) Determine which of the 2 cones you want to shoot at before you approach the ball. Then approach the ball and kick it at the chosen cone. Try to keep the ball low and try to actually hit the cone. Repeat this drill several times and make sure to practice kicking to both sides of the goal.
