This drill teaches the basic skill of receiving a short pass, running forward with the ball, and then shooting it.
Place 3 cones or markers as show by the orange circles in the picture below. The cones should be about 5 yards (or 5 meters) from each other and the last cone should be 15 yards (or 15 meters) from the goal.
1) Player A (blue) passes the ball to player B (red) and player B controls the ball.
2) Player B (red) runs forward with the ball to the open cone.
3) Once Player A reaches the open cone he or she shoots the ball, aiming for either of the sides of the goal. Perform this drill 3 to 5 times and then switch roles between Player A and Player B.
4-6) Now adjust the cones as shown by the orange circles in the picture below and repeat the drill on the other side as shown in the below 3 pictures.
